| This article w as summited by Captain Bruce Brockway Today you might find yourself building or rebuilding an airfield, while another unit of the 20th Engineer Brigade may be installing a moveable runway make of snap together panels. Tomorrow it could be the 100th Bridge Cpmpany installing a portable bridge, which comes mounted on a tank, to a wood bean built bridge with an alful lot of raw back power. The engineers job was never too easy and there was always the chance that the enemy didn't like what you were doing. The 104th Engineer s were a support group and were farmed out to different area's depending on the needs of other companies. |
| Pictured was a total of 143 5-Ton trucks hauling blacktop, it needed to be 350 degrees when delivered to the building site, not to mrntion the 100-plus temperture that day. |
| Not visable in the pictures is the asphalt spreading machine, imagine working on this machine, spreading asphalt that is at least 350 degree's, the outside air that day is 110 + . This airfield took a total of 724 loads of blacktop |
