20Th Brigade Reunion,
2006
Asheville, NC
Thank you to the Peek family for hosting the 2006 reunion.
Thank you to Linda & Monty Odom for making it all possible in the first place.
Scholarship Awarded
The 20th Engineer Brigade of 2006 has come and gone already and what a blast, first off, for those
of us who haven't retired yet it's time away from the job, and second, meeting friends you haven't
seen for 35 years is out of sight.
About 100 veterans and many of their wives attended this year, there were many others who
wanted to attend but were unable to get a room in Asheville due to our convention and a big music
fest going on in the area at the same time.
Asheville has many other attractions also but they were cast aside as friends reunited after a long
separation of time from their service days. The reunion started with a sign in and getting settled in
our rooms, there is always a reception room and it is there where the fun begins, 1st came the hugs
and hand shakes as members and their wives met other members families. Out came the photo
albums, stories, newspaper articles, and the funny part is that some of the wives have heard the
individual stories from their husbands, and you know the kind of funny looks they give us when we
told them the stories over the years, well, someone would say a word or two about an incident and
the others would just fall in and finish the story, just like it was yesterday. I guess our memories are
not as bad as the wives think.

In the following pages we will try to show what the reunion meant to those of us who were there,
allot of pictures were taken of individuals and group shots, if you can supply captions or names for
the photo's please send them in, and if you see that we got something wrong, please let us know. If
you have a picture you want posted, send that in also and we will do our best to get in listed.
20th that served with her husband Monty Odom. At first it was a few members and then it started to grow, ever year has been
better than the last and all thanks to this super couple's work. The Lord has really blessed their family.
Also each year they have donated some money to a worthy cause, chosen by a majority of votes from the members. This year the
body voted to give a $500.00 Scholarship to a worthy individual.
(Small drum roll)
Ronnie & Joyce Peek volunteered to host the 2006 reunion as all of you know Ronnie had heart surgery which left Joyce holding
the bag to pull this all together, we were told and seen that Kelsey also stepped forward and helped her mother to pull this off, there
is much that goes on behind the scene that you and I don't see, but judo's go out to the people brave enough to step forward to
take on the task.
So this year the body voted to give Kelsey Peek a $500.00 scholarship, everyone there can tell you how much this young girl
appreciated this gesture and we hope it will help in her endeavors toward her education.

Congratulations Kelsey

Below is an e-mail we received from Kelsey, to all of the 20Th Engineer Brigade Members, here is Keysey's plans.

Sorry that it has taken me so long to get to you with my goals. Between finals
for summer semester, the reunion, trying to send out thank-yous, and getting
ready for fall semester things have been a little hectic.

I'm happy to say that I finished out my summer semester with 2 B's. I was only
taking two classes. Ethics and Abnormal Psych. My GPA has gone up .08 points and
with everything that has been going on I'm so proud. I'm looking forward to Fall
semester and since I'm not working I feel that I will be more able to
concentrate on my grades and bring that GPA up even more. I'll be taking  Intro
to Literature, Elementary Spanish, Geology, and Personal Health & Wellness.
That's 14 credit hours. I'm not sure what I'll be taking in the spring but I'm
hoping to graduate from Asheville-Buncombe Tech College with an Associates in
Arts in May of 2007.

I'll then be going on to the University of NC at Asheville to get my
Bacholer's in Psychology. I'm going to try to get an appointment this week with
the admission's office there, just to make sure that I'm on the right track and
taking the classes that I need. There is a program here in NC (Comprehensive
Articulation Agreement) that states that if you are pursuing the A.A. Degree you
can expect certain classes to transfer without any problem, and I'm sure that
you know what a pain it can be to get certain classes to transfer. By meeting
with someone in the Admissions office at UNCA I'll know a little better what
will and won't transfer and the classes that I need to take to enroll at UNCA as
a junior.

Upon completion of my Bachelor's, I'll then go on to get my Masters of Library
Science. As of 2005 there was only one university in NC that offered the Masters
program that I wanted. Appalachian University in Boone, NC offers 3 different
tracks, 1)Studying to only work in school libraries, 2) Studying to only work in
public/community libraries, and 3)Studying to combines the two previous tracks
so that you have the option of working in school or public/community libraries.
I'll be taking the third track. I know that it will take me longer but the way I
look at it is that by studying to work in the school but also studying to work
in the public/community libraries I'm giving myself more choices for success.

At some point either before or after getting my Masters but also depending on
what universities are offering the MLS program I want to move to Montana. My Mom
and I went there the summer before my third grade year and since then I feel
that I left a HUGE part of me there. As corny as that sounds.

I think that about sums up my goals, minus getting married, having children,
and living happily ever after, but all that is in the future and my future is
looking bright.

P.S. With your thank-you will come my senior picture from high school. You
know women, we like to give out good pictures.
